Do You Have Arthritis?
By Lambert
Klein
Do you have arthritis? If so you are not alone.
66,000,000 people do almost 1 in 3 adults.
Arthritis is second only to heart disease as a
cause of work disability. Besides limiting daily activities arthritis
can cause many lifestyle problems. You may assume there's nothing
you can do that will help. Don't believe that. There are steps including
supplements and lifestyle changes you can make to significantly
improve your life.
Your doctor may ask a few of these questions:
• Where is your pain
• When does it hurt
• How long have you had it
• Any swelling or redness
• Family history of arthritis

Recently, Many Arthritis Patients Are Choosing
Glucosamine for Arthritis Pain Relief
While science has yet to bring us a cure for arthritis,
there are many different forms of alternative medicine which can
bring arthritis pain relief. While one individual may benefit from
magnet therapy and another may see relief through acupuncture, glucosamine
dietary supplements are proving themselves to be the leader of the
pack when it comes to arthritis pain relief.
Much research is being undertaken on how
glucosamine can benefit patients with arthritis. Glucosamine has
been shown to reduce inflammation and to retard the progression
of joint deterioration in arthritis patients. Many arthritis patients
have added a dietary supplement of glucosamine to their diets and
are reporting it has the ability to bring about arthritis pain relief.

Can That Pain in Your Joints Be Arthritis?
Ask yourself these questions: Do you have problems
with one or more of your joints? Do you know which signs point to
arthritis symptoms? If not, you should arm yourself with as much
knowledge on this disease as possible. With early diagnosis, there
is much you can do to keep arthritis symptoms at bay and to keep
your joints from becoming severely damaged.
It is not uncommon for an individual to
think that the stiffness they are experiencing is a result of physically
overworking their body. They may also attribute this stiffness and
pain to getting older. While it is true that we do slow down with
age and tend to feel many aches and pains as we grow older, ongoing
joint pain is not normal.

7 Secret Weapons to Win the War of Arthritis
Inflammation and Pain
By Rita Kennon
Arthritis is the #1 cause of disability in America
today, impacting approximately seven million people. It is now one
of the most prevalent chronic health problems.
The estimated annual costs of arthritis to Americans
are $15 billion in direct medical costs and $49 billion in indirect
costs such as lost wages. Nearly 40 million Americans have arthritis,
with 24 million of them being under 65 years old. Projected increase
of arthritis by 2020 is 60 million in the U.S. alone.
With over a hundred variations of arthritis, the
most common one is osteoarthritis. It is a degenerative joint disease
which is related to aging. The deteriorated cartilage that covered
the ends of the bone in the joint cause's loss of movement as the
bone rubs against bone. It causes the bones to change shape, the
muscles to weaken and the reflexes to slow.
Osteoarthritis most commonly occurs in the weight-bearing
joints. Severe trauma to a joint can precipitate arthritis, sometimes
years after the initial injury. Painkillers are effective for a
while, but when the drugs no longer ease the pain some physicians
recommend surgery. Americans undergo lower back surgery, and knee
and hip replacement surgery mostly because of osteoarthritis.

Glucosamine: New Hope for Thousands of Arthritis
Sufferers
By J Hall
Initial Results of National Institutes of Health
(NIH) Funded Study Reveal Glucosamine and Chondroitin Effective
in Treating Moderate to Severe Osteoarthritis Knee Pain.
Findings Bring New Hope for Millions of Americans
Suffering from Arthritis For 21 million Americans hobbled by osteoarthritis,
new science confirms nutritional supplements glucosamine and chondroitin
are the right combination for effective knee pain relief. The Glucosamine/Chondroitin
Arthritis Intervention Trial (GAIT), funded by NIH, rigorously evaluated
the efficacy and safety of glucosamine and chondroitin in 1,258
people, concluding in its abstract that the "combination of glucosamine
and chondroitin sulfate is effective in treating moderate to severe
knee pain due to osteoarthritis."
GAIT lead researcher Daniel O. Clegg, M.D.,
Professor of Medicine and Chief of Rheumatology at the University
of Utah, will present findings from the full study on November 14,
2005 at the American College of Rheumatology's Scientific Meeting
in San Diego, California.
